In my not-so-humble opinion, the polarity between left and right in the USA has reached such extraordinary extremes that neither side can be relied on to report the facts with enough objectivity to even remotely resemble anything truly truthful. Personally, I’m on the left, but…for me, at least…truth and perspective are far more important than paying lip service to my leftist convictions. However repugnant the right side may be to me, I must acknowledge that if I go to their news sources, not the left side’s news sources’ selective reporting on them, and listen without immediately shutting down when I hear an opinion I don’t share, they do in fact have a perspective that isn’t any more full of lies and hyperbole than the left side’s news sources. I therefore highly recommend that anyone who shares my respect for the truth listen to both sides, id est don’t read the New York Times without also listening to what Fox News has to say about the same issue. I also highly recommend The Flip Side, which carefully presents a summation plus quotes from both left and right on any given topic, available here.

See if you agree with the editor who, though he published other work of mine in the New York Times, rejected this piece. (Written long ago, it’s now part of Craig Healing Springs, the title I’ve given my memoirs.) THE GOLDEN YEARS When I moved to Long Island the first…

All right, all right, it’s not Pittsburra, but rather Pittsburgh, but the last five letters are the same as in Edinburgh… Anyway, long ago I could have become an active member of “SIF-wuh.” (Speaking of pronunciation, that’s how they say SFWA, which stands for Science Fiction Writers of America.) But I…
