Democrats Did Do

General Rantings

Respectfully offering a different opinion from Ina’s Guest Post last month, many suggest that, though not perfect, Democrats did do what they could to avoid the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

As an example, Obama may have started his tenure as President with Democratic backing, but there were a lot of anti-abortion sentiments among those particular Democrats at the time.  Even if there had been sufficient backing of a federal right to abortion, and many have argued that there was not, there really weren’t enough votes to support a right as extensive as the one activists needed.  Would amendments have undermined federal codification enough to actually add restrictions that wouldn’t otherwise have existed?

And is there a “clear and present danger” in continually trashing the Democrats, thus undermining their support?  Would, for instance, it have been a mistake to do the same with a party opposing Hitler in the 1930s even if their imperfections were real?
